Sculptor Essam Darwish is considered one of the most prominent figures in Egyptian sculpture. He was born in Cairo in 1970 and currently serves as a Professor of Sculpture at the Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University. He has held several significant positions, including Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Adam Henein Foundation for Fine Arts, and supervisor of numerous international and national exhibitions such as the 38th General Exhibition (2016) and the Youth Exhibition of the Fine Arts Society (2016). He has also served as a member of العليا (high-level) committees in the fields of sculpture, open-air museums, and youth salons.
His public sculptural works include several landmark pieces both within Egypt and internationally. Among his most notable works are the statue of Captain Saleh Selim at Al Ahly Club (2007), the statue of Faten Hamama at the Cairo Opera House (2018), the statue of Sheikh Zayed in Sheikh Zayed City (2015), and statues of Tawfiq El-Hakim, Ahmed Shawqi, and Taha Hussein at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (2015).
The announcement of the award winners was made during a press conference held by the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science, reaffirming the award’s commitment to honoring Arab creativity and supporting the cultural and artistic landscape across the region.
